I have had a very helpful email from Tyroon Win of Partnership Counsel, drawing my attention to the possible issues around clerks printing documents at home and how they dispose of them, in line with GDPR. I have to confess that as a senior clerk this hadn’t occurred to me, despite the fact that I do a bit of printing myself.
I realise that I may be in the minority in still needing to print the occasional document, but I would recommend that you check the position within your own chambers and consider whether your data protection policy needs to be amended. This is a link to the ICO guidance on disposing of documents. Link to ICO guidance on practical methods for destroying documents that are no longer needed
I am just checking whether I can share the article so if you have any questions in the meantime please let me know and I will do my best to help.
