Save the date – IBC Conference 2022 – Improvise, Adapt and Overcome

Dear colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to write to you with some early details of next year’s IBC conference, which is taking place, in person, at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham on Saturday 26th March 2022.

It is a real honour to be the Chair of this conference. 2022 is not just a special year for Birmingham – who not only play host to the IBC conference, but to the Commonwealth Games too – but for the IBC, which will be celebrating its centenary year, having been founded in 1922.

The title of the conference is “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome”, which we have all had to do, personally and professionally, throughout the pandemic.

We will hear from our key note speaker, Chair of the Bar for 2022, Mark Fenhalls QC* and from our guest speaker, barrister and ‘Chaser’, Dr Shaun Wallace (aka “The Dark Destroyer” from ITV’s The Chase).

In addition, there will be interactive talks from former barrister turned master mindfulness teacher, Neil Seligman of ‘The Conscious Professional’ and from former SAS Major turned award winning, author and business and leadership coach, Floyd Woodrow MBE DCM.

There will be various workshops focusing on personal and career development, which will include: social media, wellbeing, international work, fair allocation of work, subject access requests and legal aid billing.

All in all, this is sizing up to be a truly informative and engaging programme for clerks at all levels and chambers staff. My thanks go to the conference committee who continue to work hard to ensure the conference is a success.

What will make it even more of a success is seeing as see as many of you in attendance as possible. It has been such a long-time since we have been able to see one another in person and this conference provides the perfect platform for us to come together.

More details will follow in due course.

I look forward to welcoming you in March. In the meantime may I take this opportunity of wishing you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Joe Wilson
Chair, IBC Conference 2022
