Notice of IBC AGM 2023

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks will take place on Monday 13th March 2023 at 6:30pm at 3 Verulam Buildings.

1.            Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 14th March 2022: approved by Treasurer and Seconded by Chair

2.            Annual Report of the Institute presented by the Chair

3.            Treasurer’s Report

               iii)       Annual Subscriptions

4.            Proposed Rule changes

As part of our ongoing review of the Institute’s functions and rules, consideration has been given by the Executive Committee to the Office of President and of Vice President. 

Amendments are proposed to the IBC Rules and these are contained in the attached document.  This proposal is recommended, by the Executive Committee, to the Management Committee for approval at their meeting on 28 February and in turn, subject to the approbation of Management Committee, for consideration and adoption by the Institute at the AGM on 13 March 2023.

The headlines of the proposals are that:

  1. In future the President is limited to one Term of Office which remains at three years
  2. The maximum number of Vice Presidents [VP] remains at 12
  3. A new role is created of Vice President Emeritus for those VPs who no longer satisfy or do not, on appointment, satisfy the rules with regard to membership of the Institute.  This appointment is automatic.
  4. Former Presidents become Life President when they stand down from that office and this appointment is for life (no change)
  5. Vice President Emeritus is similarly proposed to be a lifetime appointment.
