In memory of Robin Soule

Les Page writes:

Robin was born in April 1937, the youngest of two brothers and was brought up and spent his childhood years in the Leatherhead/Ashtead area of Surrey.   As a youngster he was very active and got heavily involved in helping to run a local football club as well as throwing himself organising social activities.     He attended the local comprehensive school and when it was time for him to leave he was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to seek employment as a Barristers Junior Clerk.

His introduction into the Temple was  due in many ways to his friendship with John Bowker, who lived locally and was the son of Edgar (Archie)Bowker who was a Barristers Clerk of some standing, who got Robin an introduction to Chambers.  Robin was employed as a Junior Clerk by Charles Scholefield, Q.C. the head of a small set of 8 barristers on the ground floor of 3 Temple Gardens, in the Temple.    The senior clerk there was Jack Bronsdon, who apart from being a clerk, was also a farmer who was often called home by him wife to deal with some crisis or other.    One of Robin’s early job’s was delivering the weekly egg orders around fellow clerks on behalf of Jack, who had his regular clerk clients      Robin remained in those chambers until he was called up for National Service in 1955.     Upon completing his National Service Robin  returned to life in the Temple, working in Brick Court, the chambers of Neville Faulks QC as a Junior Clerk before eventually returning to 3 Temple Gardens, not on the ground floor where he had previously been, but on the 1st floor, the chambers of John Widgery QC, where the senior clerk was then John Jones.     Robin was there for several years before becoming the Senior Clerk in 1975.   The chambers moved  to 8 New Square in 1978 then on to 2/3 Grays Inn Square in 1992.     Robin stayed there until he retired to start a new life in the West Country where he remained until moving on to France a few years later until his death in September.
