Hours: Part-Time (approximately 1 day per week, with some flexibility)

About Us

We are a well-established and busy barristers’ chambers seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper to support the financial administration of chambers and its members. Experience of working within barristers’ chambers or the legal profession would be advantageous, but is not essential, as full training on our systems and processes will be provided.

This role would suit an experienced bookkeeper looking for flexible work within a professional and friendly environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping functions of chambers, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial information.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Processing and paying supplier invoices in a timely manner.
  • Carrying out regular bank reconciliations.
  • Preparing monthly statements for barristers and members of chambers.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and bookkeeping entries.
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of Chambers’ VAT returns.
  • Preparing VAT returns for a small number of individual members.
  • Monitoring financial transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Liaising with suppliers, members, clerks and staff regarding financial queries.
  • Assisting with general finance and accounts administration as required.
  • Assisting with preparing annual budget comparisons

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous bookkeeping or finance administration experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
  • Experience preparing VAT returns.
  • Confidence using accounting and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience working in barristers’ chambers, solicitors’ firms or other professional services environments.
  • Familiarity with legal accounting systems or practice management software.
  • A bookkeeping or accounting qualification (AAT or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of Sage, Xero and BarStat an advantage, but not necessary as training will be provided.
