23ES Chambers, a leading Criminal, Regulatory and Commercial Chambers, based in London and Manchester, is seeking to appoint a Junior Clerk.

The successful applicant will report to the Senior Clerk and work alongside the Chambers’ Practice Managers at our London Office, where they will be expected to work 5 days a week.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate relevant experience and an enthusiasm for developing their career should other opportunities become available in Chambers. Training will be provided and as the appointed candidate becomes proficient at carrying out their duties, they will be encouraged to become familiar with the activities undertaken by the Practice Managers to maintain the barristers’ practices and generally assist their colleagues in the Clerks’ Room.

The Junior Clerk’s duties will include:

  1. Dealing with post as required to including sorting and delivery to the barristers, recording the outgoing post, using the Chambers’ DX system and delivery of mail to the Post Office when required;
  2. Assisting with the destruction of all confidential waste, including liaising with external suppliers when necessary;
  3. Assisting the Practice Managers with the review of electronically stored papers for the purposes of GDPR;
  4. Supporting the Practice Managers in the administration of barristers’ work by entering relevant case data into Lex, Chambers’ electronic diary and finance system;
  5. Assisting Practice Managers to obtain listing information;
  6. Liaising with solicitor clients to receive electronic and hard copy papers;
  7. Preparation of hard copy and electronic Court bundles;
  8. Assisting in the organisation of Chambers’ Marketing Events;
  9. Assisting with the management of stationery supplies;
  10. Any other appropriate tasks which they may be asked to complete from time to time.

Knowledge, experience and education:

Candidates will be expected to have the following education and attributes:

  • Five Grade C or above GCSEs, including Maths and English
  • A sound understanding of Word and Excel
  • Be a good team player
  • Demonstrable written skills

Normal hours of work are 9.00am – 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

Additional hours may be required from time to time for the proper and effective running of Chambers and therefore a pro-active and a flexible working attitude is required.
