Job description
12KBW is a long-established civil set of chambers which has a well-deserved and consistent reputation for excellence. Our core practice areas include personal injury, employment and discrimination, international and travel, industrial disease, insurance, clinical negligence, product liability, professional negligence and costs.
This is a dual role where the successful applicant will be both a junior clerk and a member of the facilities team. The time will be split between supporting the clerking team and assisting the Head of Facilities. This role will require the candidate to multitask and prioritise their workload. This is a full-time on-site role.
The successful candidate is someone that can work well under pressure, keen to learn, develop and progress. This would ideally suit someone looking to begin a career as a barrister’s clerk.
Applicant will have the following:
- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s, including Mathematics and English
- Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe with particular knowledge of OneDrive
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- A focus on excellent client care with a professional and service-oriented approach
- Strong initiative and willingness to work in a pressurised environment
- Team ethic with significant ambition to learn and progress career
- Willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of Chambers
Clerking:
- Delivering papers to and from court
- Returning papers to solicitors
- Collecting papers from around Chambers buildings and distributing accordingly
- Updating records on to Lex
- Checking court listings and liaising with counsel and instructing solicitors
- Electronic and hard copy document management support, including photocopying, scanning, printing, pagination and binding
- Produce electronic bundles for all members by downloading multiple individual files in different formats and collate the documents into a single indexed pdf file
- Download and share files from solicitors and make available to barristers in the correct format
- Managing the printing requirements for barristers, including creating case hearing bundles for court
- Photocopying and printing of sometimes large volumes of materials as part of the document production role. This may involve helping to assemble multiple copies of bundles of documents for use in court proceedings
- To maintain accurate records of Chambers’ books and online library resources
- To order textbooks and manage the online subscriptions and associated budget in collaboration with the relevant Committee
- Responding to requests for legal textbooks, reports and other online legal resources
Facilities:
- Handling and dealing with general enquiries
- Administrative tasks including DX and post
- Deal with general maintenance enquiries
- Liaise and build good relationships with the inn’s maintenance teams
- Ensure stationary, confectionary cupboards and printers are refilled/stocked in all buildings
- Assist with room moves
- Assisting the Front of House and Business Operations Manager, as required
- Arrange couriers on behalf of Chambers
- Other ad hoc duties as required
