An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and ambitious Junior Clerk to join Outer Temple Chambers.
Outer Temple Chambers is an established leading set of chambers providing bespoke legal services for solicitors, in-house counsel, professional clients and private individuals. Our success is built on sound legal advice and effective problem solving, focused wholly on the individual needs of our clients.
This is an entry level role and offers the foundation to an exciting career in clerking. You will need excellent organisation and communication skills.
You will provide administrative and organisational support to the Practice Management Team, as well as assisting colleagues to deliver an efficient and professional service to barristers and clients.
Core duties
- Answer calls professionally, direct or take messages, and maintain a call log.
- Accompany barristers to court with necessary papers and books; deliver items to other chambers when required.
- Move books, boxes, and documents to keep corridors and public spaces clear; maintain tidy pigeon-hole area.
- Monitor and manage storage areas, ensuring only active cases are stored and papers are returned promptly.
- Manage all incoming/outgoing mail and DX, including occasional trips to the main sorting office.
- Log papers sent out of Chambers in the fees and diary system, noting destination and method.
- Photocopy, prepare bundles and authorities for court, and fax documents as needed.
- Monitor and organize stationery supplies and cupboards.
- Lex System administration.
- Attend listing appointments, check daily court/tribunal schedules, and inform barristers of commitments.
What We’re Looking For:
- Min BTEC and/or 5 GCSEs including Maths and English grade 4, level C or above.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft software.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and confident in handling challenging situations.
- Good organisational and time management skills; the ability to work in a disruptive environment with competing demands and to prioritise effectively.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to help out.
- Professional presentation.
