Venue: Bar Council, 289-293 High Holborn, London WC1V 7HZ – basement event space

We welcome all members of the IBC and LPMA to join us for the second session surrounding the outputs from the clerks and chambers staff Workplace Survey Report. You don’t need to have participated in the survey to attend – this event is open to all.
Chair: Liz Dux, Chambers Director at Littleton Chambers
Speakers: Rachel Krys, Equality and Diversity Consultant, Bar Council and Nicki Eyre FRSA, Managing Director, Conduct Change (which is the partner organisation who undertook the joint IBC/LPMA Workplace Survey Report)
This talk will focus on the subject of bullying, harassment and discrimination, focussing on relationships between barristers, clerks and staff. We will discuss the various power dynamics in those relationships and interactions (including between staff) and the challenges they can present, particularly surrounding difficult conversations and behaviours.
Just as importantly as identifying these challenges, we’ll also talk about what we can do when we are subject to, or observe, behaviours that are unacceptable, to make our collective working environments and relationships more positive. Attendees will be invited to submit anonymous questions in advance of the session for the panel to consider (time permitting).
Our speakers have significant experience in this area:
Liz Dux
Liz has been Chambers Director at Littleton since 2017. Prior to joining Chambers, she was an Equity Partner at a large national law firm where she was an operational manager for a large section of the business together with responsibility for running her own specialist litigation team.
Rachel Krys
Rachel is a consultant to the Bar Council, supporting the independent review into bullying and harassment and delivering training and bespoke support for chambers members and staff on identifying and tackling bullying and harassment. Before working with the Bar, Rachel led a number of small organisations and has worked with large and small employers delivering equality and anti-bullying and harassment projects.
Nicki Eyre
Nicki Eyre, Founder and Director of Conduct Change, has experienced both opportunity and adversity during her career, including her own experience of feeling bullied at work. Since that time, she has dedicated her career to raising awareness of the impact of bullying as well as offering practical and pragmatic solutions to organisations who want to improve the way that they handle bullying and toxic behaviour. She also leads the work of the Stop Hurt at Work campaign as they research and campaign for the implementation of effective routes to redress for individuals, both in terms of approach and legislation, which led to the introduction of the Bullying and Respect at Work Bill in 2023.
This is a topic that is relevant to all staff in chambers, and at all levels of seniority. We’d particularly encourage more junior members of the staffing teams to attend, as well as our more senior members.
