IBC conference 2023 – ‘It’s all about the people’ – navigating a career in people focussed profession

Date: 18th November 2023 from 9:15 am to 5:00 pm

Kimpton Fitzroy London | Luxury Hotel in Bloomsbury near Russell Square

Dear Colleagues

The waiting is over! I am excited to announce the full conference details for the 2023 event.

On the 18th November 2023 we return to the spectacular Fitzroy Kimpton Hotel, Russell Square, London, a dream of a venue, which some will recall hosted the 2019 conference.

This has been made possible by the incredibly generous support of our sponsors.

The theme and title of the conference is:

‘It’s all about the people’ – navigating a career in a people focussed profession’.

In my experience it really is all about the people, and I hope that the day itself will be an example of this as we come together and enjoy a very sociable, fun, and informative conference.

We are joined by some brilliant speakers on the panel, to include Nicholas Vineall KC, the Chair of the Bar. The open forum will be full of topical discussion and advice.

The headline presentation will be a lively session delivered by Bernard Savage of 10 ½ Boots, I have got to know Bernard, and he will be perfect to energise your approach to business development.

Lunch will be amazing, perhaps a cheeky glass to accompany it.

Followed in the afternoon with sessions as diverse as navigating the property ladder, with our headline sponsors Henry Dannell, to a discussion on navigating the management ladder. Both sessions requested and designed by the Career Development Committee.

We will look at Public Access, and where future opportunities may lie, which ties in with the use of AI and Chat GPT. Both will focus on technology and AI, not as a replacement for people but as a tool to enhance and improve.

I am delighted to welcome Leanne Buckley-Thomson a neurodivergent barrister. She is passionate about promoting understanding and removing stigma. We experience people with neurodivergence within our families, at work and amongst our friends, this will be a fascinating session, as she views it through her eyes and experience.

Finally, I am delighted that we will be joined by Graham Smith, formerly deputy senior clerk at Old Square Chambers, and now a highly acclaimed life coach.

Followed by the customary post conference drinks.

We are arranging a pre-conference social on the Friday evening, which we hope our friends from the north, south, east and west, will join us for in the heart of Legal London.

I can’t wait to see you all. Thanks to my committee and all involved.

Dave Scothern, Conference Chair.
