Role Overview
This role is on site in Warwick Court, WC1R 5DH. As a called Junior Clerk, you will play a vital support role in the smooth running of Chambers. You will support barristers, clerks, and the administration team with daily operations, including court runs, diary management, and general office duties. This is an excellent opportunity to build a strong foundation for career progression in the clerks’ team, supported through hands-on experience and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities
Reception & Communication
Answer calls professionally, direct or take messages, and maintain a call log.
Greet visitors and assist with conference set-up.
Document Handling
Open and distribute DX/post/faxes.
Photocopy, scan, and prepare bundles and authorities for court.
Transport documents to and from court, including lodging skeleton arguments and orders.
Print, scan, copy, and collate materials received electronically.
Operational Support
Carry out daily checks (refreshments, toner, paper, confidential waste).
Maintain stationery levels and perform regular stock checks.
Book couriers and keep accurate logs.
Assist with weekly fire drill tests and act as Fire Marshal.
Diary & Data Management
Enter briefs/instructions into the LEX system.
Assist with barristers’ and pupils’ diary management.
Log papers sent out of Chambers, noting destination and method.
Team Liaison & Admin Support
Work closely with barristers, clerks, and colleagues to ensure appropriate support.
Provide assistance to the administration, operations, and marketing teams as needed.
Additional Duties
Attend fixing appointments at court.
Support internal and external events.
Provide administrative assistance to Practice Managers.
About You
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a professional and confident telephone manner.
Organised and proactive multi-tasker with demonstrable problem-solving skills.
Accurate and reliable in high-pressure situations and able to meet deadlines.
Collaborative, able to work independently and within a team.
Strong academic record (minimum 5 GCSEs including Maths and English).
IT proficiency (Microsoft Office).
Unrestricted right to work in the UK.
Professional presentation and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
Remuneration and Benefits
Salary: in line with the current London Living Wage (currently £30,609 per annum) plus discretionary annual bonus, or commensurate with experience.
Full-time, permanent on a rota between 8am–6.30pm.
