Keating Chambers is a leading set of commercial barristers’ chambers, with a thriving domestic and international practice, comprising 72 barristers (33 King’s Counsel and 39 juniors, and 7 international members and honorary associates).
Our barristers specialise in providing their services across the areas of construction and engineering; energy and natural resources; infrastructure and utilities; international arbitration; IT and technology; offshore construction and marine engineering; procurement and competition; associated professional negligence and planning.
An opportunity has arisen to join Keating Chambers as Head Junior Clerk, supervising two other members of the team. This is a busy and varied role that is key to the smooth running of chambers’ activities, including assisting with court appearances. The team is part of our wider staff team, including marketing, clerking and operations. General duties include: leading and overseeing all duties in the post room, being the main point of contact in the team, working to ensure the smooth running of the post room/copy room; liaising with the clerking team; taking barristers with their papers to court; photocopying; distribution of papers and assisting barristers and other members of staff.
Please be advised this role is office based only at our offices at 15 Essex Street, London WC2R 3AA.
The candidate will:
- Have the organisational and prioritisation skills to manage and allocate the team’s workload.
- Have strong logistical skills.
- Be proactive and efficient, using your initiative to identify and implement service improvements.
- Be able to work well with a wide range of people, while also being confident working independently.
- Be able to work well in a pressured environment to prioritise and deliver on multiple demands.
- Have excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
- Be polite, friendly and of smart appearance.
- Be able to demonstrate a positive attitude in challenging circumstances.
- Be able to handle confidential information discreetly.
Salary & Benefits:
- Start date – immediate.
- Salary – circa £29,500 per annum.
- Hours of work: 40 hours a week on a shift system between 8am and 6pm.
- Holiday entitlement – 20 days plus bank holidays, 22 days after one year and 25 days after two years.
- Pension – employer contributions 6%.
- Benefits on completion of probationary period include: Bonus Scheme (up to 15% of salary based on targets set), Season Ticket Loan, Permanent Health Insurance, Life Insurance and Private Medical Insurance and bonus half-day ‘birthday’ holiday.
