We have a vacancy for a barrister’s clerk and welcome applications from both experienced barristers’ clerks and those with an interest in clerking as a career and appropriate transferrable skills willing to train, develop and progress with us. We have a 5-step job family for our clerks, from trainee level to the most senior clerking level, enabling you to plan and track your progress.

Primarily supporting our Family & Civil practitioners, this is an excellent opportunity to join our small and friendly clerking team based in Chester City Centre. As we are small team, you will also learn to support our Crime team when cover is needed, broadening your clerking knowledge and experience, and accelerating your career development.

You will be a first point of contact for solicitors and other clients wishing to book counsel and help to ensure the smooth running of barristers’ diaries and case arrangements, as well as supporting the general running of facilities to barristers, clients and colleagues at this site. As you gain experience, or if you bring it, you will also be involved in negotiating fees, billing, networking, practice and business development.

You’ll need to be able to demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills, the ability to provide excellent client care and a friendly and helpful manner in working together with colleagues and supporting barristers and their clients.

Ideally you will have proven experience of working as an Office Assistant, Administrator or Clerk in a barristers’ chambers or similar legal or professional services environment. Essentially, you will have working experience of administration, use of office ICT and equipment. A flexible and team-oriented approach is a must as is an interest in a career as a clerk.

Salary range: £19,760 – £25,000 p.a. (depending on skills and experience). We may be able to offer a higher salary for an experienced barristers’ clerk who can hit the ground running.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm (1-hour lunch)
Holidays: 25 per year plus Bank Holidays
